Lend a Helping Hand

This lesson is inspired by Eva and Casanova, who have perfected the art of asking for assistance.
Our lives are full of little routines, and one of my favorites happens whenever I finally get the chance to relax on the couch. Before long, one of the cats will climb right on top of me for an important grooming session.
Over time, they've trained me remarkably well. My job is to hold their tail at just the right angle so they can reach every last spot. They ask. I help. It's a system that seems to work quite well... at least according to them. 😸
As funny as this routine is, it does make me think of something important - asking for help isn't always easy.
Many of us grow up believing we should figure everything out on our own. We worry about being a burden, appearing weak, or inconveniencing someone else. So we struggle in silence, even when someone would gladly lend a hand. Our pets don't carry that hesitation. When they need help, they simply ask. They trust the people who love them, and they accept care without guilt or apology and I think there's wisdom in that.
This lesson is about both sides of kindness. When you're able, offer your time, your encouragement, or your helping hand to someone who needs it. And when you're the one who needs support, remember that it's okay to ask for, AND receive it.
But remember that helping others doesn't mean saying yes to everything. Healthy kindness also includes healthy boundaries. If that's something you struggle with, I hope you'll visit the lesson on Find Your Balance. The two go hand in hand.
Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is ask for help. And sometimes the kindest thing we can do is offer it.
Ask for a hand. Lend a hand. It goes both ways.
