Life Lessons from our Pets

Gentle reminders to slow down, breath deeper, and live with the same presence our animals teach us every day.

Love is Meant to Be Shared

Zen Masters: Sasha & Lucy

The best things in life are meant to be shared.

Zen Masters: Lulu & Lumi

This lesson comes from SO many zen master teachers: There's Sasha and Lucy, and Lulu and Lumi. And don't forget Eva and Casanova, Maxwell and Zoey. Then there was also Zoey and Ginger (Ginger was Zoey's dog really), proving that love knows no bounds and isn't restricted to species.

I've always shared my home with a wonderfully large fur family, and one of my favorite things to watch has been the relationships they build with one another. Some naturally become inseparable. Others simply enjoy each other's quiet company. Every bond is a little different, and every one is special. Even the more independent personalities could occasionally be found curled up in a cuddle pile, reminding me that connection doesn't always have to be constant to be meaningful.

I think people are a little like that, too.

Some of us are naturally outgoing. Some of us recharge in solitude. Some of us are proudly introverted... speaking from experience. But no matter where we fall on that spectrum, we all need connection. We all need to know we are loved, accepted, and that we belong somewhere.

Love is one of the few things that becomes greater the more we share it - A kind word. A warm hug. A thoughtful gesture. A few minutes spent with someone who needs company. None of these things diminish our own hearts. Instead, they have a remarkable way of making the world a little brighter for everyone involved.

Our pets understand this beautifully. They don't keep score. They don't wonder whether they've already loved enough today. They simply offer affection when they feel it, and somehow remind us to do the same.

So share your love. Tell the people who matter that they matter. Make time for those you care about. And don't be afraid to accept love in return. Because love was never meant to be kept to ourselves... even if some of us need a quiet afternoon alone afterward. If that's you, you may enjoy the next lesson: Find Your Balance 😸
