Life Lessons from our Pets

Gentle reminders to slow down, breath deeper, and live with the same presence our animals teach us every day.

Purr/Wag More, Worry Less

Zen Master: Lucy

Our pets, like Lucy & Ginger, seem to inherently know something we often forget: worrying doesn't actually help solve problems.

Zen Master: Ginger

Purr/Wag More, Worry Less is one of the simplest Life Lessons in this series, but also one of the most universal. Worrying has become such a natural, habitual state for a lot of us to live in, though I don't really know why. This isn't a problem many of us had as kids, it's something we learned along the way. Instead of worrying, it's so much more effective to focus on the present and notice all the little things that bring us joy.

This lesson is inspired by two very special companions:

"Purr More" comes from Lucy, my sweet little flame point Himalayan with a calm presence and a way of reminding everyone around her that peace doesn’t need to be earned. She simply was. Lucy had a gift for turning ordinary moments into quiet comfort, and her gentle nature shaped the heart of this message.

"Wag More" comes from Ginger, my smart girl with an open heart. As a Hurricane Katrina survivor and rescue, she had a lot of fear and trauma to get through. Looking back at her life and journey, I'm amazed at what she accomplished. Ginger lived with a kind of honesty that dogs, or all our pets really, are so good at: not overthinking, not holding back, just feeling enthusiasm for the moment she is in. Her reminder is simple: there is always something to wag about, even on difficult days.

Together, these two ideas became one shared lesson: Purr more. Wag more. Worry less.

A reminder to soften your focus when the world feels heavy. To step away from the thoughts that loop and tighten, especially the ones we cannot control. To return instead to presence, to connection, and to the small, grounding moments that ask nothing of us except to be experienced.

This lesson doesn’t ask for perfection or constant positivity. It simply invites a pause: a breath, a shift in attention, a moment of ease. Because sometimes the most meaningful change is not solving everything at once, but allowing yourself to worry a little less, and live a little more.

Purr more. Wag more. Worry less.
